The 12 Safety "Steps" of Hanging Christmas Lights

It's that time of year again! Time to break out the ladders and hang up your Christmas lights. So let's take a closer look at ladder safety tips that we all should follow when hanging up Christmas lights this holiday season.

1. Get the Right Ladder

Before you start climbing any ladders, make sure you have the right one for the job. If your ladder is too short or too long it can be a recipe for disaster. Make sure you’re using a ladder that is the right height and weight capacity for what you need to do.

2. Have an Assistant

Hanging up Christmas lights can be tricky, so have someone help you by holding the ladder or handing you supplies. Make sure they understand proper ladder safety and don't climb on it themselves!

3. Secure Your Ladder

Before getting on the ladder, make sure it's secured in place by either having someone hold it steady or using appropriate anchoring devices such as rope or screws depending on where you're standing it up. Anchoring it reduces the chances of the ladder falling while working with your hands above your head.

4. Wear Proper Footwear

Having the proper footwear is important when climbing ladders; shoes with good grip and traction will help keep you from slipping off the rungs of your ladder while also keeping your feet warm during colder weather months!

5. Don’t Overreach

When reaching to hang up those lights, make sure not to overreach outside your comfort zone—you want to stay within arm’s reach at all times so as not to risk falling off balance.

6. Take Breaks

Working on ladders can get tiring quickly; taking frequent breaks helps reduce fatigue so that you don’t slip off due to exhaustion from being on a ladder too long without rest!

7. Know Your Limits

If something feels uncomfortable or unsafe, listen to yourself and stop! Do not push yourself beyond what feels safe just for the sake of that perfect Christmas display.

So there we have it, seven key safety tips for hanging holiday decorations this year! From choosing the right equipment and having an assistant on hand, all the way through knowing when enough is enough—these simple steps can help keep everyone safe while they string up their Christmas lights this festive season!
